When going on vacation, there are a few pieces of home that I absolutely have to take with me. Of course, this list is for road trips, not plane rides. When I fly, which is non-existent since I had kids, I pack as lightly as possible. Having things from home makes the trip more comfortable and helps you maintain a little bit of normalcy.
Are there any items that you can’t leave home without? Drop them in the comments.
Diffuser:
If I am going anywhere for more than 2 nights, I have to take my diffuser with me. Diffusing my sleep oils helps me get solid rest even if the bed is uncomfortable. My absolute must have sleep oils are Cedarwood and Serenity. Even if the bed and pillows are sub-par, with this heavenly pairing will have you dreaming all night.
My Pillow:
My husband doesn’t “get it”, but I have to travel with my pillow. I take it everywhere, even to the hospital when my kids were born. Plus, I sleep with 3-4 pillows at home and you usually only get 1-2 when you travel, I need stackage. I like to hug one, sleep on a couple and have another for my face in case I forget or misplace my eye mask.
Eye Mask:
I am super light sensitive. The teeniest bit of light from a TV or night light or from the sun peering in through a curtain will disturb me. I absolutely have to have my eye mask. I need it dark. Having my mask helps me sleep soundly.
Immune Boosters:
What is it about travel and getting sick? I don’t mean fever or vomit sick, I mean cold and stuffy sick. I always travel with my On Guard essential oil, beadlets and caps. It’s great to take them preventatively leading up to the trip and while you are out of town. I like to use the roller up and down our spines every morning and night, take the supplements every morning and a beadlet here and there. Doing this helps keep our immune systems strong.
Sleeping Oils:
As I mentioned before, I am obsessed with my sleeping oils- Cedarwood and Serenity. They are fabulous.
Serenity is a blend including Lavender Flower, Cedarwood, Ho Wood Leaf, Ylang Ylang Flower, Marjoram Leaf, Roman Chamomile Flower, Vetiver Root, Vanilla Bean Absolute, and Hawaiian Sandalwood.
Serenity Benefits
- Creates a restful environment at bedtime
- Calming and soothing aroma
- Encourages a tranquil atmosphere
Cedarwood has properties that help to soothe the mind and body, the warm, woody scent of Cedarwood oil promotes a relaxing environment when used topically or aromatically.
Cedarwood Benefits
- Cedarwood oil naturally repels insects
- Creates a comforting and relaxing environment
- Helps to keep skin looking healthy
6-Outlet Strip:
It seems like no matter where we travel, to a hotel or a house, the outlets are never laid out well and sometimes there are not enough of them. We always travel with at least two 6 outlet strips. We are on vacation now and I have one in the kids room and one in our room. It’s a good thing too because most of the outlets are already in use or in hard to reach locations.
With a strip, we have ample room for our diffusers, phones and computers.
Bible:
I like to start my day with a devotional and a chapter from the Bible. Our Daily Bread is my go-to. You can order a paper copy or get it online. I try to carve out time on my trip, usually in the morning, to read the Word and hang out with my Creator. There is no better way to start the day.
A Good Book:
This is a must have for me- especially on a beach vacation. There is nothing quite like sitting on the beach, listening to the waves crash on the sand and reading a good book. In fact, this trip is the first since I had kids that I have really been able to enjoy reading on the beach again. They are old enough now to entertain themselves…mostly. I actually finished a 430 page book in 4.5 days. I am pretty proud of that! lol
