3 WAYS TO USE DOTERRA ESSENTIAL OILS FOR HOLISTIC HEALTH

We’re going back to the basics with this week’s post. I get so many questions from people who are new to essential oils and people who confuse scent oils with essential oils. Many people think the only way to use them is to diffuse them. While diffusing oils is wonderful, there are other ways that they can be used for increased health benefits.

what are essential oils?

Essential oils are compounds extracted from plants. The oils capture the plant’s scent and flavor, or “essence.” Unique aromatic compounds give each essential oil its characteristic essence. Essential oils are obtained through distillation (via steam and/or water) or mechanical methods, such as cold pressing.

how are doterra oils different from other essential oils?

Unfortunately, many essential oils on the market are heavily contaminated or adulterated with synthetic chemicals. If you’re buying essential oils, you want something completely natural and safe. Using an adulterated product takes away all of the benefits you are trying to gain by using oils in the first place.

When you want essential oils that are safe and effective, the most important thing to look for is purity. Pure essential oils allow you to reap the full benefits that nature has to offer with no fillers or contamination. doTERRA has the purest essential oils in the market.

Remember, you usually get what you pay for, and essential oils are no different.

how can i use doterra essential oils?

TOPICALLY

This refers to applying the oil to your skin. I normally advise my clients to dilute the oil by adding a drop or two to a carrier oil.

  • Massage
  • Apply to targeted areas and rub in
  • Add to lotions or moisturizers

Some of my favorite oils to use topically are:

  • Deep Blue: Wintergreen, Camphor, Peppermint, Ylang Ylang, Helichrysum, Blue Tansy, Blue Chamomile, and Osmanthus blend together for a very cooling and comforting experience. I use it almost every night before bed to help with hip pain.
  • Serenity: Lavender Flower, Cedarwood, Ho Wood Leaf, Ylang Ylang Flower, Marjoram Leaf, Roman Chamomile Flower, Vetiver Root, Vanilla Bean Absolute, Hawaiian Sandalwood blend together to create a relaxing and restful environment. I use this nightly for better sleep.
  • Adaptiv: Wild Orange, Lavender, Copaiba, Spearmint, Magnolia, Rosemary, Neroli, and Sweetgum blend together to make a soothing and uplifting environment. I basically use this as perfume.

aROMATICALLY

This refers to using oils via smell. There are a few ways to do this.

  • Diffusing in an essential oil diffuser
  • Applying a drop to your hands and inhaling
  • Wearing as a personal fragrance

Some of my favorite oils to use aromatically are:

  • Breathe: Laurel Leaf, Eucalyptus Leaf, Peppermint Plant, Melaleuca Leaf, Lemon Peel, Cardamom Seed, Ravintsara Leaf, Ravensara Leaf essential oils blend together for an easy breathing experience. This oil is great in the diffuser at night. (PS. apply to bridge of nose to help prevent snoring)
  • Peppermint: with menthol, menthone, eucalyptol, this oil is uplifting and powerful. This is a great oil to diffuse in the afternoon when you hit that slump.
  • Frankincense: this warm, spicy, herbal oil creates a comforting environment. I can diffuse this night or day. It’s a very “meditative” oil.

INTERNALLY

This refers to ingesting the essential oils. Most doTERRA oils are safe to take internally. If the bottle has supplement facts, you are good to go.

  • Add to a glass of water
  • Take in a veggie capsule
  • Put a drop under your tongue

Some of my favorite oils to use internally are:

  • Lemon: naturally cleanses the body and aids in digestion. This is a great oil to add to your water first thing in the morning.
  • On Guard: Wild Orange Peel, Clove Bud, Cinnamon Leaf, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus Leaf, and Rosemary Leaf/Flower essential oils blend together to support healthy immune and respiratory function. I take it in a veggie cap but some people love soaking apples in water with a drop of On Guard for an immune boosting treat.
  • DigestZen: Peppermint, Coriander, Ginger, Caraway, Cardamom, Fennel, and Anise essential oils combine together to promote healthy digestion. I have upper GI issues and this oil has been a lifesaver for me.

I hope this has addressed some of your questions. doTERRA essential oils are the highest quality oils available and they can be used topically, aromatically and internally. They are safe and highly effective. If you have any questions about using oils as a natural line of defense for your health and wellness, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I am happy to help!
