A VERY COVID CHRISTMAS: HOW TO STAY OUT OF THE HOSPITAL IF YOU GET SICK

This December was nothing like what I had planned or expected. I had preschool Christmas concerts, I was the coordinator for class parties for both of my kids, we were going to drive around looking at lights, go to a couple of light festivals and we were invited to an awesome cookie making party. So many plans. Canceled plans.

It was a Thursday afternoon and I started feeling very sluggish. I tend to hit a couple of sluggish slumps every November and December, so it was nothing unusual. I ate one of my On Guard Chewable Tablets, told my husband I was going to bed early, and crawled into bed. It was 8pm. I woke up in the middle of the night and EVERY SINGLE part of my body ached. My eyeballs hurt. My back. My arms. My legs. From my elbows to my knees. I stayed in bed most of the day Friday. I used my doTERRA Deep Blue stick that includes Copaiba. This usually gets rid of discomfort immediately. It worked but not completely; I could still feel the ache, just not as deeply.  I had some Hydroxychloroquine on hand so I started taking it.

Friday afternoon, I decided maybe I should get a Covid test. Something seemed off. I rarely ever get sick.  I made an appointment at a local drive thru testing site for Saturday morning. Fortunately, I was feeling better Saturday. I was able to drive myself to the test (no way I could have done that on Friday). I did the test in the car, dropped it off at the tent and headed home. I had mild congestion and a slight cough on Saturday but was feeling better. I was up most of the day; only taking about an hour nap in the afternoon. Around 6pm I got a text message with my results. Covid Detected

Sunday I was stuck in bed again almost all day. The body aches had mostly disappeared but the congestion and cough remained. Knowing this is a respiratory virus, I used my doTERRA Breathe vapor stick constantly, as well as applying Black Pepper, Eucalyptus and Rosemary to my chest.   I was able to get up for a few hours on Sunday night.

Monday I woke up feeling better but my taste and smell started to fade in and out. The congestion and cough were going away. I was on day 4 of my Hydroxychloroquine when my husband started to feel bad. So I gave him my last 3 pills. I started putting AromaTouch Essential Oil on the bottoms of my feet twice a day because I heard it may be able to help with smell and energy.

Tuesday, day 6, I experienced fatigue and complete loss of taste and smell. This is also the day that I began experiencing shortness of breath. I took a couple of naps. I wasn’t able to do much of anything but sit on the couch. I was finally able to connect with an amazing group of volunteer Telehealth Doctors on Tuesday at Myfreedoctor.com. I filled out the patient intake form explaining my symptoms and within a few hours, I was chatting with a Doctor online.

I was prescribed Ivermectin, Montelukast, Prednisone, Cyproheptadine and Azithromycin. It was also recommended to add Zinc Sulfafe 100 mg daily, Vitamin C 2000mg 2-3 times/day, Vitamin D 4000 IU daily, Quercetin 250 mg twice a day, Aspirin 325mg daily, Pepcid 20mg, and Zyrtec 10 mg per day. I opted to take this Immune Boosting product that I found highly rated on Amazon, Immune C Plus, in addition to the On Guard Chewable that I was already taking 3 times per day.

Wednesday I went to the local pharmacy to get most of the meds. The Ivermectin was ordered from a pharmacy and had to be mailed. I received that on Thursday. ($45 plus shipping- prices are all over the place so call for pricing first!). The Prednisone seemed to help my breathing right away. The Montelukast, which is an asthma medication, knocked me out and I slept like a rock; the jury is still out on what it did to help my symptoms.

Once I got meds, I began to get better slowly. I was still sleeping way more than normal. Still no taste or smell. But I was able to function, taking care of my kids, wrapping presents, getting back to life a little. Fortunately, I work from home so I was able to continue working, when I wasn’t napping. (I am NOT a napper! and I was napping almost every day)

I ordered a Nebulizer from Amazon to have on hand, as well as some food grade hydrogen peroxide. I already have iodine on hand. Nebulizers  are good for colds, sinus infections, flu, asthma, cough etc. so I definitely think it is worth the investment.

Nebulizer Recipe: *** Nebulizer Recipe for Respiratory Infections ***

1 cup (8 oz) bottled purified water like Aquafina

½ teaspoon salt

2-3 tablespoons of food grade 3% hydrogen peroxide

10 drops Lugols Iodine or Povidone Iodine

Fill the Nebulizer half full with the above solution and inhale the mist.

It may take about 1 1/2 hours to do each treatment. Do 2-3 treatments per day. This solution will keep for several years.

This is HIGHLY EFFECTIVE & SAFE for ANYONE for ANYTHING.

In addition: 2 drops by mouth daily and 1 drop in each nasal cavity with a dropper or q tip. Total dose not to exceed 10 drops per day.

As I write this blog post, it is Day 22. Unfortunately, I am still not back to “normal”. My taste and smell come and go with every bite and sniff. It’s crazy. I will be eating a meal and I can taste the first 2 or 3 bites and then on the 4th, nothing. Completely gone. I get headaches occasionally (I don’t normally get headaches). The sinus pressure in my head and nose is finally starting to subside. My energy levels are rebounding. Fortunately my kids are out of school for 3 weeks so I have been able to forgo the alarm and get some extra sleep in the mornings. I don’t know how to explain it except to say that I still feel weird. Nothing life threatening; just not right. The good news is, that is changing. I have noticed notable progress over the past 48 hours.

Surprises

  • I was told NOT to take Ibuprofen. Use Tylenol or Aspirin if needed.
  • Some Doctor’s say it’s ok to use OTC cold meds, others say DO NOT. Use your best judgement or ask your Doctor.
  • On day 15 of being symptomatic, my husband still tested positive and was told to isolate for 5 more days!
  • The symptoms last a lot longer than my husband and I thought they would.
  • Our kids (5 & 8) were not affected at all.

What Helped

  • Having hydroxychloroquine on hand as soon as my symptoms started was a lifesaver
  • Using natural remedies I had at home like Breathe Vapor stick on my chest, Breathe Roller on my chest and feet, Breathe in the diffuser. Black pepper, eucalyptus and Rosemary on my chest and I also did some steam treatments with those oils.
  • Frankincense was also wonderful for my shortness of breath issues.
  • I used my doTERRA On Guard Chewables and the Immune C Plus daily
  • My husband had a fever off and on for 9 days. We used Peppermint and Lavender essential oil on his feet.
  • The Deep Blue + Copaiba stick also helped with my husband’s cough by rubbing it on his chest.
  • Took Peppermint Beadlets to assist with breathing as taking peppermint internally has been proven to help.
  • Having access to MyFreeDoctor is a blessing. I was able to get meds almost immediately using a donation based service. (I would suggest getting to acute protocol BEFORE getting sick!!)
  • Try to drink twice the amount of water you normally drink. I added 2 drops of doTERRA Lemon Essential Oil to a glass every morning to help with the detoxification process.
