If you have been reading my blog recently, you know that I lost my mother exactly one month ago. Since then I have been surviving in a state of overwhelm. Dictionary.com defines Overwhelm as to load, heap, treat, or address with an overpowering or excessive amount of anything. That’s me. Between work, my young children, my husband, household chores, helping my grandmother, helping my daughter with her first ever Girl Scout cookie season and my mother’s estate matters, I feel like I am not doing anything right. It’s all too much. Some days I feel like I am drowning.
Prayer has definitely been helping me. My own prayers and prayers that others are lifting on my behalf. My morning Bible Study and time alone with the Lord help to provide me with peace that carries me through the day. Listening to Christian music and praising the Lord also fills me with a peace that surpasses all understanding. I have cried out to God many times over the past month like Peter did when he took his eyes off Jesus and started to drown in the stormy seas- Lord save me!! Lord help me through this. God speaks to us through his Word. If you are feeling overwhelmed, here are some helpful verses:
Matthew 11:28-30
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Psalm 91:1-2
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
Isaiah 41:10
fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
1 Peter 5:6-7
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
